Summary
If you have hard floors in your home, then it goes without saying that a steam mop is a must. But if you’re looking for a bit of cleaning versatility and raw steam power, then the Shark S2901 Steam Pocket Mop is your new best friend.
You know what convenience sounds like to me? It’s when a floor mop instantly converts into a handheld steam cleaner. I can’t even begin describing the sort of grime and bacteria hiding in plain sight. But like most UK citizens, my budget (unfortunately) dictates my tastes.
So you can imagine my reaction when I heard about the Shark S2901UKCO Multifunction Lite Steam Pocket Mop.
Promising the ideal balance between raw steam cleaning power and versatility, it’s hard to believe all that and a reasonable price range to boot. But just how does the appliance actually perform? Let’s find out in this first-hand Shark Steam Mop review.
Shark Steam Mop Review
What I like
- Light and sturdy design
- High steam flow rate
- Array of accessories
- Converts into a handheld
What I don’t like
- No instruction manual
- 45 second heat time
What Are You Buying?
As the name suggests, the Shark S2901 Steam Pocket Mop is designed to scour deep into all corners of your home preying on germs, dirt, bacteria, grime and all sorts of messes. If you’ve always wanted to keep your house in order but couldn’t afford it, you’ve got no excuse now.
Yeah, I know that cheap cleaners and appliances in general often get a bad rap. But I was surprised at how sturdy the S2901 is. From top to bottom, no single part feels cheaply made.
When it comes to the raw cleaning power, Shark clearly got the competition on their toes. Sure, the S2901 may not be as powerful as the higher end steam mops, but it’s definitely enough to clear the grease off my kitchen counters and grime off the hardwood floors.
No, I don’t mop my kitchen counters if that’s what you’re thinking. The Shark S2901 Steam Pocket Mop features a handheld configuration for then you want to get to higher places.
Now for the steam; I noticed that this device offered the industry standard heat up time of 30 seconds (more like 45), so no big whoop there. However, the brand more than makes up for that with a plethora of attachments. This includes 2 microfibre pockets, a carpet glider, extension hose, several brushes and a squeegee for windows.
We’ll look at the accessories later on. But first, have you seen that water capacity? At an entire 3.4 litres, the water tank is quite generous if you ask me. Managed to steam my house continuously for well over 17 minutes.
How Easy Is It to Use?
Not only is the S2901 Lite Pocket Mop from Shark incredibly easy to use, but it’s also elegant in design too. Even the initial assembly was quite intuitive for me. So you should have no trouble figuring that part out.
Once you’ve got it assembled, you’ll immediately notice the weight – more particularly the lack of it. At only 2.5 Kg, that as light as a steam mop comes. This means that you can take it anywhere around the house without unnecessarily tiring your arms.
The ergonomic shape also makes handling, manoeuvrability, and control that much easier. While upright, she handles just like any other mop should. If your house is as small and as packed as mine, you’ll definitely appreciate the swivel steering.
And it gets better when converted into a handheld. All you have to do is pop in the 1-metre hose and decide on which attachment to work with. And thanks to the balance between raw steaming power and flow rate, the drying time isn’t that bad either. Just make sure you don’t become a casualty of wet slippery floors.

Pros

Cons
- Shark could have at least included an instruction manual to make life easier
Anything Else You Should Know?
Now, the packaging for the Shark S2901 Lite Steam Pocket Mop clearly states that it turns tap water into steam. However, the label recommends distilled water which can be a bit confusing to users. Having used both, I can say that the unit performs just as good with tap water as distilled water. However, it does leave behind some amount of residue behind with tap water.
Conclusion
If you have hard floors in your home, then it goes without saying that a steam mop is a must. But if you’re looking for a bit of cleaning versatility and raw steam power, then the Shark S2901 Steam Pocket Mop is your new best friend.
In addition to making full use of the steam on a myriad of surfaces, you get a specialized attachment for each. What’s more, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg like some of the other bulkier, higher-end steam mops. But don’t take my word for it; give the S2901 a whirl and see it yourself.
